NASA conference on Astrobiology Discovery!!!

Yeah, NASA and CERN is not the same, I know, but Fidel told me about these interesting NASA news for us.

Textually, "NASA will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 2, to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life." It will be broadcast live on the NASA website.

They don't clarify which is the important finding that will impact so much our lives. I fear the worst. They might have found intelligent life anywhere... Probably, after so many years looking for it on Earth, they were not able to find any intelligence in the life here, specially at CERN, and then they started looking at the stars... Or, who knows, maybe it's just the opposite. Maybe they just found other ones like us, to go to have parties and get drunk, without any intelligence at all. That would be fun!

  1. Finding non-intelligent people to drink and party with would be nice :) Beautiful aliens are ok :)

I am afraid it will be a bluff... They probably have just developed a new method to improve radio-telescopes performance or some shit like that. I is probably just a viral to have publicity.

  4. mmm, is this such a great discovery??? I already knew long time ago about the tube worms that get energy from sulfides and not oxigen, I don't see where are the breaking news: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_tube_worm

  5. Fidel's link is interesting, it made me found these other news about methane in Mars, probably coming from alive entities there: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/mars/news/marsmethane.html
These are already 1 year old so I don't think tonight's conference will talk about that. Anyway, I do think that methane in Mars are breaking news!!!

  7. The news is that creatures from California can use Arsenic instead of Phosphorous in their DNA and other cellular processes (including replacing the Phosphate with Arsenate in ATP, the cellular energy source). This is a big deal since Arsenic is highly toxic to most life forms, and because I'm from California, so it means that maybe I'm not susceptible to Arsenic poisoning ;-)

Unfortunately, since I don't live in Mono Lake, I probably don't have any superpowers :-(
But maybe I have regular powers, like Arsenic poisoning, since during my childhood some of the water I drank came from Mono Lake.
